American English Accent for Brazilians
Everything you need to know fast with exercises
About / Sobre
If your accent makes you less confident, you're in the right place. This course was created for Brazilians who want to improve their accent and fluency in American English. Every lesson contains audio and step-by-step instructions on how to apply these techniques to your learning process. All difficult vowel sounds contain a how-to-create video with exercises.
To complete this course, you will need to go through 5 steps:
Step #1: Getting started: This section includes advice on how to set reasonable goals, track your progress, find language partners to get corrected, what to record and how.
Step #2: Learn the Foundations of an American Accent. This section is filled with examples and exercises to help you understand and reproduce reduced forms, syllable stress and word stress.
Step #3: Learn Vowels Sounds and How to Create Them: Bed vs. Bad, said vs. sad, man vs. men / hill vs. heel, this vs. these, hit vs. heat / Schwa sounds (letters we don't pronounce (o in choc(o)late, e in veg(e)table), etc.
Step #4: Correct Common Brazilian Mistakes: This section deals heavily with phonetics, specifically where and how you should move your mouth. Videos are filmed up-close and I ask you reproduce in a mirror. Tips are included so that you can work on these mistakes on your own time.
Step #5: Resources and How to Use Them: This section gives you great content - such as audiobooks, podcasts, voice actors, Ted Talks and music - and how to use the content to improve your accent. By the end of this step you will have a direction and lots of entertaining content to help you stay motivated.
Step #6: Build Your Confidence: Here I provide some practical day-to-day tips to improve your confidence by yourself. In addition, I recommend social groups and guides for overcoming fear you may have either when speaking one-on-one, in groups and in front of audiences.
It'll all be okay. . .
Since 2011, I've helped English language learners around the world become fluent. The techniques provided in this course have helped many of them overcome difficulties faced when trying to sound "native."
Rome wasn't built in a day and an accent isn't either. However, by applying the rules for an American accent and working on removing your "Brazilian" habits, I can guarantee you will hear progress in the videos you make (see step 1!).
Enjoy! :)
